A navy man was arrested from his Navy Nagar residence in Colaba on Sunday for stabbing a colleague’s wife 11 times. The victim is critical.
“The naval police detained Leading Radio Operator R.A. Chandran and handed him over to Cuffe Parade police,” said Defence spokesperson Captain M. Nambiar.
According to police records, Chandran and the complainant, Petty Officer D. Rawat, knew each other as their daughters are in the same school and are friends.
Police said that on February 13, Chandran went to Rawat’s flat and asked his wife to come down. An angry Rawat told him to come up to the flat. “When the accused said he wanted to speak with Rawat’s wife alone, Rawat threw him out,” said police inspector A. Tambre from Cuffe Parade police station.
The next day, Chandran sneaked into the flat through a window and found Rawat’s wife washing clothes. “He stabbed her 11 times and ran away,” Tambre said.
Neighbours rushed her to the defence hospital.
Police said they don’t know the motive behind the attack. “We are waiting for the victim to get better so she can be questioned,” said a police officer.
