The Naxalites of CPI (Maoist) struck again to avenge the killing of their leader, Kishenji! The left-wing extremists killed a police constable and injured another jawan in an encounter near Dhamditola forests under Chinchgarh police station, bordering Chhattisgarh in Gondia district, some 200 kms from here on Thursday.

According to the district police, the Ganutola police outpost under the Chinchgarh police station, received information about naxalites putting up banners and posters at Dhamditola, appealing people to observe ‘protest week’ that began on November 29. The naxalites are observing the ‘protest week’ against the Kishenji’s killing in a police encounter in West Bengal last week.

A group of five police personnel went to the village to remove posters and banners put up by the naxals. They were attacked by armed naxalites when they were returning to the police outpost after removing the posters.

The incident occurred at 9.30 am and it continued for half an hour, the reports said. Police constable Manoj Atmaram Binzade (28) died on the spot while another jawan was injured in the exchange of fire.

It was not immediately known whether anyone was either killed or injured among the naxalites.

Additional police force was sent to the spot after getting information. However, naxalites fled from the scene.

A combing operation is on in the area after the incident.

The superintendent of police (SP), Gondia, C Meena was not available for comments.
