THE FIVE Naxals arrested in Bhopal told the Crime Branch team from Indore that they used to purchase raw material from Shivaji Market in Indore through a Bhopal-based firm called Bhaskar Engineering.

They also used to purchase goods from Calcutta Steels and Industrial Tooling Corporation. Acting on the lead, the Crime Branch team on Monday searched 10 shops in the Shivaji Market to see whether there was any invoice of Bhaskar Engineering in any of the shops.

The search continued throughout the night, but it yielded no results. It appears that most of the transactions were done in cash and no receipt was issued, so there are no paper trails. In any case, apart from big firms, most of the small firms while making purchases rarely take a receipt to escape paying sales and other tax.

Sources said that from the information they could gather, shells of bullets and rockets were prepared at the factory in Bhopal, while the other components used to be assembled elsewhere.
