Naxalites set ablaze a gram panchayat office in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district in the wee hours on Thursday.
The extremists torched the office at Ramgarh under Purada police station and fled from the scene, police said.
The extent of the damage was not immediately known.
Earlier, a Naxalite was today killed in a police encounter in Murumgaon area of Gadchiroli district, police said.
The encounter started when police team of C-60 group, a specialised Naxal crack team, were on routine patrolling. About 30 to 40 naxalites opened fire on the team. In the ensuing gunbattle one naxalite was killed, they said.
Police recovered the body of the Naxal member, which is yet to be identified.
