Maoist leader Sabyasachi, reported to have orchestrated the Nayagarh attack in which 15 policemen were killed, is the son of a three-time CPM legislator.
Hindustan Times spoke to Sabyasachi’s elder brother Sidartha who stays in Baramunda area of Bhubaneswar. “There are many senior Naxal leaders in Orissa. But since my brother is from a political family, he is getting more attention,” Sidartha said. “My father was thrice-elected MLA on a CPM ticket from Ranpur Assembly constituency,” he further said. Sidartha said he is loath to be identified as Sabyasachi’s brother.“Why should the media or other people identify me as Sabyasachi’s brother? I get annoyed when people call to ask about Sabyasachi. I’ve severed ties with my younger brother and last met him in 1998.”
Sabyasachi is secretary of the Bansadhara division of the CPI (Maoist) Andhra-Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC).
“Sabyasachi was doing B.Sc in Mathematics at SCS College in Puri. He was associated with the Student Federation of India (SFI). Then suddenly, he quit studies and we were told he had gone to work in Koraput and Rayagada districts.”
“For a couple of years, he would come home once or twice a year. But after 1998, he has stopped coming. We came to know from newspapers that he is involved in Naxalite activities,” Sidartha said.
