In order to spread awareness among the common masses about the hazards of polythene bags, NCC cadets of various school and colleges took out a rally here on Friday.

The rally was organised by district administration as part of the campaign against the use of polythene bags. Udhampur district development commissioner (DDC) Yasha Mudgal flagged off the rally from Higher Secondary School (boys) here.

Carrying placards and banners, the students marched through various streets and markets of the town and urged to use paper bags instead of polythene bags.

Mudgal called upon the people to boycott the use of polythene and encourage the use of paper bags for healthier life. "Polythene is not only a source of pollution, but detrimental to our economy as well," said Mudgal. She urged the students to educate their families and neighbours about the ill-effects of the use of poly bags, and make a habit to carry bags made of cloth or paper while shopping.
