'NCP should merge with Congress'

With the foreign origin issue of Sonia Gandhi no longer relevant, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) should consider merging with the Congress, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said Kolhapur on Saturday.

Singh, who is in charge of Maharashtra and came to Kolhapur to interview candidates for the ensuing assembly elections, told reporters that it is his personal opinion and he has talked about it with NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

"NCP was formed on the issue of foreign origin of Sonia Gandhi. That issue is no more relevant," he said.
He said the party will soon decide on alliances with other parties for the assembly poll.
