GENUINE RESIDENTS of the Nehru Enclave colony expressed their ire over dubious role of the local police in dealing with illegal activities in a few of the flats here. They said that no policeman was seen in the area even during daytime, leave aside the tall claims made by SSP Ashutosh Pandey about  night patrolling.

They said that mere eviction of illegal occupants from the colony would not eradicate the menace unless cops targeted those engaged in illegal activities.
The residents had given complaints with specific information to the local police about brothels running in four flats in different blocks of the colony. The information was even passed on to SSP Pandey but no action was initiated by the police.

The residents further alleged that two LDA employees and two student leaders were running the brothels.

Besides flesh trade, the flats either grabbed or allotted by student leaders and mafia dons were being used as safe haven for dreaded criminals, including those wanted in police records.

However, CO Gomti Nagar Man Singh Chauhan passed the buck to LDA officials.

He said the flats were allotted by the department only and they were sublet to those who are engaged in criminal activities. Chauhan said the police would help LDA officials if they forced the real owner of the flat to either he himself occupy the flat or remove the shady tenants.
