A 42-year-old Nigerian national was stabbed to death allegedly by his neighbour in a fit of rage at his Vakola tenement on Sunday morning.
The incident took place around 1.30am at Nigerian national Akpononu Nnaji's rented room at Shaif Manzil in Santacruz (East). Nnaji, a cloth merchant who had been living in India for over a year, had a heated argument with his neighbour Asouha Prince, 35. In a fit of rage, Prince allegedly stabbed Nnaji with a kitchen knife following which he fled from the spot, said the police.
Senior inspector of Vakola police station, RG Pardesi, said: "A Nigerian woman Melaba witnessed Prince stabbing the deceased. We suspect the duo had a fight over her." He added that Nnaji had been stabbed in the throat and also had a gash on the left side of his face.
Melaba rushed Nnaji to VN Desai hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Prince was later arrested by the Kalamboli police station on Sunday evening and handed over to the Vakola police station where a case of murder has been registered against him. "We have alerted all airports too," said an officer.
