New courses a big hit with students

india Updated: Jul 03, 2006 15:50 IST

On Saturday, as the chaos of the second cut-offs seemed all but over, the authorities at many colleges seemed busy with another set of inquiries. While colleges like Hindu, Ramjas and Maitreyi have already begun registration for some of their add-on courses.

Others like Venkatesewara, Hansraj, Miranda and IP will wait till mid-July before starting the registration and the admission process. At the Ramjas college, where the admission brochures for its foreign language courses were out on Saturday, the authorities received an overwhelming response from the students.
"On the first day itself we sold out more than 600 language brochures for only around 625 seats that we have in different languages", said Professor Babli Moitra Saraf, Head of the Language department at Ramjas college.

The same has been the case with the Maitreyi College, offering some of the most sought after add-on courses. "We started giving out forms late last month itself — so far the response has been good. But we expect to be busier in the coming days, with many more inquires about these courses like Nanotechnology, Food Tech, Web Designing and Journalism,” said Professor Savita Mohan Dutta, Principal Maitreyi College.

Further adding, "with the kind of weight these courses add to a persons resume, they sky rocketing popularity is obvious.” The last date for their registration is July 25, with entrance around July 30.

While some of these colleges have already started their registration process in these courses, most talk of initiating the process around July 15 and ending it with admissions before August.
