LUCKNOW FINALLY got a new district magistrate after a long wait on Tuesday. The change, however, left the uninitiated here somewhat confused as Ramendra Tripathi took over from Ravindra Tripathi at around 8.30 pm on Tuesday. He was the mela officer in Allahabad earlier.

The similarity does not end here. Like his predecessor, the incumbent, too, is a promotee IAS officer of the 1991 batch. A native of Deoria, Tripathi holds a master’s degree in history from Prayag University and also taught for sometime before he qualified for the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) in 1973.

Prior to this, he has served as the DMs of Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Fatehpur.
Tripathi said the immediate task would be to implement the priorities of the State Government. “Bringing the marginalised sections of the society into the mainstream with the help of various government welfare schemes would be my main concern,” he said, sounding more like a people’s representative rather than a civil servant.

“While focusing on rural development, I will also try to get as much money for the State capital as we can under the Union Government’s Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme for cities,” he said.

Besides constituting the committee required for the fledgling Bhumi Sena formed by the chief minister, the District Magistrate  said he would strive to ensure transparency in the administration’s functioning and establish a direct dialogue with the common man to understand their problem.
