After having set the ball rolling for the longest flyover in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is all set to embark on another infrastructure project to ease traffic mess.
The MCG proposes to construct a 1-km-long elevated corridor at Maharana Pratap Chowk on MG Road to give a safe and signal-free ride to motorists coming from Signature Tower (Gurgaon Expressway and HUDA City Center Metro station) towards Atul Kataria Chowk further connecting Sector 5, Palam Vihar and the newly earmarked sectors under proposed Gurgaon-Manesar Urban Complex.
The project would help easing traffic flow on MG Road that connects Gurgaon Expressway at two locations such as Iffco Chowk and Signature Tower on one end and Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) on another end.
The municipal corporation has awarded to the contract of the project to Tarun Mathur & Company, which is likely to submit the feasibility report on Monday.
"The report is ready and we are submitting it to MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal on Monday," said Tarun Mathur.
The MCG had earlier rejected a feasibility report prepared by the firm for the elevated corridor on the road from Mahavir Chowk to Iffco Chowk through Sukhrali.
"The traffic volume is very high on the road from Signature Tower towards Atul Kataria Chowk. Traffic coming from Signature Tower side would cross Maharana Pratap Chowk intersection on an elevated corridor. Similarly, we propose to build an underpass at this crossing to give uninterrupted right passage to traffic coming from Mahavir Chowk," said
BS Singroha, chief engineer of the MCG, adding that the flyover and underpass would solve the traffic congestion in the Old City.
"As soon as we get the feasibility report, the process for land acquisition for the flyover and underpass would begin as our aim is to complete the project in two years," said the official.
Maharana Pratap Chowk is an intersection of two busy roads - the road linking Mahavir Chowk and Iffco Chowk through Sukhrali and the road connecting Signature Tower and Atul Kataria Chowk.
"The proposed underpass and flyover would allow smooth flow of traffic from all the four directions," said the MCG official. A commuter from old city's Sadar locality can reach Iffco Chowk in less than 15 minutes.
