NEWLY APPOINTED Gorakhpur Development Authority vice-chairman M.A.A. Khan, who took charge here on Saturday, said planned development of the city and improving the financial health of the GDA would be his priorities.

He laid stress on benefits for the economically weaker sections of the society.
“Though the GDA is a commercial institution, it should also work for welfare of the economically weaker sections,” he said.   Khan, resident of Sitapur district, was selected for the PCS in 1972 and was awarded the IAS cadre in 1990. Earlier, he was district magistrate in Azamgarh from 1999 to 2002 and in Gonda in 2003. He was also secretary of the Lucknow Development Authority from 1993-96.

Khan said all suspended development work of the GDA would resume and new projects would be completed on time. He said delay in work created problems for people and the authorities. The cost of construction increased with time, which added to problems, he added.

To a question, Khan said in all residential schemes, economically weaker sections would be given preference. He said with cooperation of banks, the authority would help consumers get loans.
