After the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) postponed the opening of the new international airport at Hyderabad slated for March 16, 2008 citing operational reasons, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is finally going to commence commercial operations on March 23.
The GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited-promoted airport at Shamshabad received permission on Thursday to begin operations.
The existing airport at Hyderabad would no longer be available for civilian use. The International Air Transport Association Code “HYD” for the airport would be transferred to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
However, general aviation services can continue at the existing airport at Hyderabad.
