Pomodoro

When in the mood for some fine Italian food, Delhiites are used to heading to South Delhi, or of late, Gurgaon. So, the decision by the Hilton at Janak Puri, in the Punjabi heartland of West Delhi, to open an Italian fine diner, may have taken courage. Glad it wasn’t unfounded. Pomodoro, the 70 cover restaurant reminds you of an old style Italian kitchen, with a wine showcase dominating the interiors. The fare rustled up by chef de cuisine Sanjeev Sharma, involved a mix of delicacies from Sicily, Tuscany and Napoli provinces. We highly recommend Zuppa di pesce alla Napoletana (Rs450) or the spiced seafood soup and the Pizza Pomodoro (Rs600), to be followed up by grilled lamb chops, or Costolette di Agnello (Rs1,150). Tiramisu takes the cake when it comes to desserts. Overall, Pomodoro provides an enriching dining experience, at prices that don’t pinch the pocket.

Skybar@kylin
The three great things about the skybar at Vasant Kunj’s Kylin Premier, are ambience, ambience and ambience. The food doesn’t let you down, either. A totally spectacular view awaits as you enter the terrace of the Pan Asian restaurant. There’s table seating in the lush green mini lawn on one side, and snazzy lounge setting on the other. Giant outdoor coolers ensure a pleasant breeze, as you nurse a drink under the stars.

Sarabh Khanijo, the brain behind Kylin, plans to introduce a variation in the ambience, every now and then, to keep the interest alive. Our pick from the food menu, while watching a teenager’s birthday party at the venue with much interest, was Fish in Thai Herbs from the live Teppanyaki counter, and most definitely, the wok fried diced chicken with smoked chillies. The sushi platter is great value for money. Team it up with innovative cocktails to spice up the experience. In a nutshell, Skybar at Kylin is what Delhi should have had much earlier. But now that it does, it’ll redefine what we’ve known al fresco dining to be.
