Next action hero
Seventeen-year-old Parzan Dastur on his stuntbaazi in Sikandar. Hiren Kotwani tells more.india Updated: Mar 06, 2009 14:01 IST
Move over Akshay Kumar.. Parzan Dastur is here. The teenaged actor not only performed all the action scenes in Sikandar without a double, he even trained extensively for the stunts three months prior to shooting.
Directed by Piyush Jha, the film revolves around 14-year-old Sikandar who wants to play professional football in the under-15 team. But things change drastically when he finds a gun on the way to school.
Jha outlined the action scenes soon after narrating the script to Dastur. “He was very enthusiastic,” recalls the director. Dastur trained with Pervez Shaikh and Feroz Khan, the action directors, in running, kicking, punching and getting beaten up. “Even though he’s not an athlete, in Sikander he was sprinting through he forests, chased by dogs and gun shooters with natural ease.. it’s an amazing performance,” enthuses Jha.
Dastur, who started as a child actor in Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was last seen in Rahul Dholakia’s Parzania. He says, “I had done a fair bit of action in Parzania too.. I even ran through fire. Sikander was more thrilling. I was impressed with the safety measures taken to ensure that no one was hurt. They would first do the stunt themselves and then after showing us how to go about it, let us have a go.”
Dastur’s parents who accompanied him on the shoot were mostly unperturbed. “But thank God, they weren’t at the location when we shot the scene where I’m chased by dogs and fall hard,” he laughs. The shot was okayed in the second take because he didn’t fall on the exact spot the first time. “When the director okayed it, everyone applauded,” he beams.
Dastur, who is studying commerce at H R College, is currently preoccupied with his HSC Board exams. So he doesn’t have any other movie in hand. But ask him if he’ll be the next action hero a couple of years down the line and he laughs. “I’m not much of an action guy but if I do get movies with a lot of chills, thrills and spills, then why not?”
