National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths on Thursday detained two youths in connection with the Patna serial blasts from Sithio village under Dhurwa police station in Ranchi.

A senior IPS officer, not willing to be quoted, confirmed the development.

The detained duo has been identified as Md Iftikhihar Ansari, 25 and Md Naushad Alam, 40.

NIA officials questioned the two in connection with the serial blasts at Gandhi Maidan in Patna last October during BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's rally. The blasts had killed six and injured 90 others.

An IPS rank police officer told HT that Alam was picked up by the NIA sleuths after they learnt that he, along with one other person, had bought a piece of land to build a mosque.

The officer added that NIA suspects Tahseem Akhtar, the current IM chief and Haider Ali, Akhtar's aide, had helped finance the land deal.
