Nine killed as jeep falls into river

Nine students were killed when their jeep fell into a river in Maharashtra's Nandurbar district on Monday.

The mishap occurred in the wee hours when the driver lost control over the vehicle at Rayangan-Shivar near Navapur and it fell into the Rangavali river, police sub inspector RR Bote said.

All the students were proceeding to Dhule for a computer exam, he said.

Eight of the deceased including the jeep driver were identified as -- Nirav Vasave (22), Nitin Valvi (22), Jaydeep Vasave (28), Ashish Vasave (22), Prafulchandra Gavit (17), Yashoda Valvi (19), Ranjita Gamit (23) and Wasinbhai Quereshi (driver) (23).
