Nine persons, including a woman and two minor boys, were killed in two separate road accidents on Sunday. One accident occurred on NH-24 near Pilkhuwa and the other at Loni-Ghaziabad road.

Seven of those killed near Pilkhuwa were devotees, who were headed for Garh Mukteshwar in Panchsheel Nagar district in a mini-truck in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The accident happened when the driver of the mini-truck lost balance on NH-24 and rammed the truck into a stationary oil tanker, parked on the road.

"Five of the travellers were killed on the spot, while two others lost their lives during treatment," said Ram Swaroop, superintendent of police, Panchsheel Nagar.

Around six persons also suffered injuries during the accident.

The devotees were stated to be residents of Babrala village in Haryana.

This is the second such incident in the past two days in the same area on NH-24.

In the other incident, two brothers - aged 16 and 12 years - were crushed by a speeding truck on Loni-Ghaziabad road near Laxmi-Palace cinema hall. The duo was riding on a bike with another minor boy, when a truck laden with bricks crushed them. The other boy was injured.

Locals blocked the road for over an hour and damaged the truck while raising protest against the incident.

"The police immediately rushed to pacify the agitated people and arrested the co-conductor of the truck while the driver managed to flee. The situation was controlled soon, ahead of the festival day on Monday," said JK Shahi, superintendent of police, Ghaziabad.
