Nitish befooling people of Bihar over BPL issue: RJD

Senior RJD leader and former union minister for rural development, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on Wednesday charged Bihar Chief minister Nitish Kumar with "befooling" the people over the number of BPL families in the state and giving them job opportunities for only 28 days as against 100 days earmarked under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee ACT (MNERGA).
Singh, also a national vice-president of the party told reporters here that Nitish Kumar was claiming that number of BPL families in Bihar was over 1.40 crore but his government issued job cards to 1.24 crore families and provided jobs to only 41.27 lakh BPL families for just 28 days as against 100 days of job earmarked under MNREGA during 2009-10.
Flaying Kumar for befooling and lying to the people of Bihar, Singh said the state government spent just Rs 1816.87 crore during 2009-10 under MNREGA whereas Rajasthan spent RS 8202 crore, Andhra Pradesh Rs 4507 crore and Madhya Pradesh RS 3779 crore during the last fiscal under MNREGA.
Giving details of the fund spent by the state under MNREGA Singh said a sum of Rs 712.26 was spent under MNREGA during 2006-07 and 1.68 families were provided jobs for 35 days as aginst job cards issued to 3.56 lakh BPL families, the RJD leader said.
