The police are still clueless into the murder of four-and-a-half-year-old Sarthak Chawla, who was brutally murdered on Thursday evening in Ghaziabad.
His mother Deepti, who was seriously injured in the attack, made her statements before the police officials inside the ICU of Shivam Hospital, Rajnagar.
She said some unidentified person entered her room Thursday evening and attacked them. The police were banking on her statement for clues into the murder that rocked the city.
"I was helping the child with his studies after the maid left the apartment. After some time, I smelt a peculiar odour. Soon, I lost control over my limbs. The person, who had his back towards me, hammered my child. I was unable to help my child due to the intoxicating effect of the perfume. I saw the assault but could not do anything. Then, he stabbed me repeatedly and later disappeared from the room…" she reportedly told the police. SSP Akhil Kumar confirmed her statements.
"The circumstances and the statements will definitely move into another direction. The statements made by her are not the conclusive ones. We will investigate more and try to find out the truth," CO (II) C.P. Singh said.
Deepti's doctor's husband Rajesh Chawla had earlier maintained that the doors of his flat were locked from inside and he had to break open the front balcony door with the help of society's guard to get in.
The police had recovered knives, a screwdriver and an ice pick from the scene of crime.
