‘No compromise on security of oil field’

india Updated: May 14, 2012 02:09 IST

How many people work on the rigs of Bombay High?

The number of people working on process platforms/rigs varies from time to time, based on the requirement at each installation and depending on the weather.

Have the incidents of thefts raised questions over security of the vital installation?

Our offshore oil field installations are crucial ones. But there is no compromise over security. The thefts took place from isolated unmanned platform. Also, security of the entire offshore is reviewed at regular intervals with agencies concerned and necessary changes are made. However, measures are being taken to further strengthen security.

Has the police asked you to install CCTV cameras at the rigs and is ONGC is planning to have an electronic Wall to check intrusion?

CCTV cameras are already installed at all manned platforms and rigs. Efforts are underway to enhance the security at unmanned platforms. Security is being further strengthened by use of available technology.

Are there armed guards to protect oil rigs and platforms?

Adequate security arrangements are in place at our platforms and rigs.

In case of thefts, how does ONGC assist the police?

Whenever required and requisitioned, ONGC provides the Yellow Gate Police Station required logistic support and any other assistance.

The police suspect that fishermen are responsible for the theft…

Since this matter is under investigation by the police, ONGC cannot offer any comments.
