Laws governing the treatment of minors in conflict with the law necessitate leniency on him, but driven by evident disgust his co-inmates at two successive remand homes don't seem to think so.
Among the three people, including main accused Ram Singh, to have allegedly subjected the 23-year-old physiotherapist to maximum physical and sexual pain on December 16, the juvenile has been shifted to his third detention centre after he was allegedly thrashed black and blue twice at two different remand homes since being nabbed last Friday, sources said.
"Initially, he was lodged at Prayas detention facility at Delhi Gate immediately after we produced him at the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB)," said an officer.
A few hours later, however, he was surrounded by his inmates who knew the reason for his presence among them and allegedly beat him severely.
The next day, sources said, he was shifted to another detention facility for juveniles in conflict with the law (JCL) located at south Delhi's Lajpat Nagar.
Here, too, sources claimed, he was assaulted black and blue by his co-inmates out of nothing but sheer disgust generated by media reports appearing both in newspapers and on television.
"Finally, he was shifted to the facility at north Delhi's Majnu Ka Tilla where he is currently lodged," the officer said.
Nabbed from Anand Vihar ISBT last Friday morning and two months shy of officially attaining his 'manhood', the juvenile had first moved to the city with his mentally-challenged uncle in 2007.
Subsequently, he had met his future 'mentor', Ram Singh, while working at a small bus stand at east Delhi's Karkardooma - his second job after having worked at a roadside dhaba in Trilokpuri.
"On the fateful evening, it was him who had solicited the victim and her friend. It was purely a matter of chance - the fact that they were headed to Uttam Nagar - and the juvenile was touting Dwarka as the destination of the bus," said the officer.
