Pakistan has said it would not permit Indian freight trains in the Khokhrapar-Munabao sector till the Indian Railways restarts the Thar Express on the route that was suspended due to floods in Rajasthan last year.
Pakistan Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said that Indian authorities have decided to resume rail traffic on the sector from March 10.
"The Indian Railways Ministry had conveyed in the first week of December that the Thar Express operation will resume from February 10. Now the Indian railways have conveyed that the operation will resume from March 10," he was quoted by Dawn as saying.
Apparently unhappy with the postponement, Ahmad said the Pakistan Railways was not ready to start the freight service on the section, as "we had spent a sum of Rs two billion to facilitate the families on both sides of the border".
The Thar Express operation between Munabao and Khokhrapar had to be suspended from August 25 as large stretches of track on had been damaged or washed away by floods.
