ONCE USED to a luxurious lifestyle, Monica Bedi spent her first day alone in an austere barracks of Woman’s Ward at the Bhopal Central Jail, very quietly.
The former actress did not make any demands from jail authorities and mostly kept to herself. “As an undertrial she is allowed to wear her own clothes and is not required to wear the uniform of a prisoner,” said a jail official.
“She did not ask for any newspaper or magazine either, but she can get them from the jail library,” the official, who did not want to be named, further said.
Monica ate the general food served in jail and no preferential treatment is being given to her. However, there is more security at her barrack. She has been kept separate from other prisoners and is not allowed to meet with any fellow inmate.
Monica Bedi was brought to Bhopal for the first time last year after her arrest and produced in the court. She was then kept at the Mahila police station and served food from a hotel. But since then she has been convicted in Hyderabad in a similar case and has been in jail.
