The Mayawati government on Thursday turned the heat on the Congress. Rebutting the murder and rape accusations against the police in Bhatta-Parsaul villages, it said a preliminary forensic examination had found no human remains in the ash samples picked up from the area.
Within hours of Congress president Sonia Gandhi raking up the charges, cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said six samples were sent to a forensic lab in Agra.
"We've received a preliminary report, there is no presence of any human remains."
The claim comes a day after the samples were sent for tests. Officials had then said a report was expected in a week.
