Over 2000 non-executive workers under Airports Authority Employees Union (AAEU) struck work on Wednesday as part of the nation-wide 12-hour strike, but the agitation has not impacted operations in Mumbai.
AAEU has been demanding that there should be no further privatisation or leasing out of other AAI airports in the country.
The strike call has been given by the Central Public Sector Trade Unions (CPSTU).
"Our strike is peaceful and we will not indulge in any unlawful activity," AAEU Assistant General Secretary, Dilip Gujar said in Mumbai.
However, there were no disruptions in the airport operations in the city due to the strike.
"Strike has not affected our operations and it is absolutely normal," a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MILA) spokesperson said.
Two private air-carriers, Jet Airways and Deccan, had already announced cancellation of flights originating from or landing in Kolkata.
