No jam at e-way toll plaza

india Updated: Oct 02, 2012 02:41 IST

There was no jam at the Gurgaon toll plaza on Monday because the waiting-time was two to four minutes, in pleasant contrast to the 35-40 minutes witnessed on Friday, when toll was reintroduced.

There are two reasons for this: one, about 50,000 vehicles crossed the plaza between 8.30am and 10.00am and also 5.30pm and 7.00pm, the toll-free hours.

And about 15,000 vehicles used the two roads divided into six and seven lanes, respectively, where toll could be paid at 13 points.

However, it remains to be seen what happens if the ban on collecting toll during the peak hours goes.

A Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd official said: "We will go by the 10-minute waiting period or the 80-vehicle pileup and lift boom barriers if necessary."

Trips for Smart tags discount slashed
The Delhi-Gurgaon expressway operator has finally woken up to the need of promoting smart tags. On Monday, the concessionaire firm slashed the number of monthly trips mandatory for availing 50% discount on the fare.

In another initiative, the Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL) has started passing on the registration number of non-tag vehicles straying into tag lanes to the police.

The Gurgaon police say it will penalise the defaulters through e-challans. These measures will go a long way in decongesting the expressway.

Earlier, a tag user needed to make at least 60 trips per month to avail 50% discount on the R21 toll. The commuters had time and again asked the firm to reduce the minimum cap as it was impossible for them to make 60 trips with many holidays in a month.

From Tuesday, they will have to make just 40 trips to get the discount. “The tag users were earlier required to make 60 trips through the toll plaza to avail 50% discount which was in some cases not possible due to holidays,” a DGSCL spokesperson said.
