THE STATE Government has issued a circular to State universities and their affiliated degree colleges, indicating that there will be no further increase in seats this year.

Last year, the number of seats had been increased by 25 per cent. In the circular, the varsities and the colleges have been asked to stick to this number.

The universities and the degree colleges have been told not to admit students beyond the number of seats fixed last year. Lucknow University Pro Vice-Chancellor RS Yadav on Saturday evening confirmed that the varsity had received the government circular. Meetings of heads of departments and principals of degree colleges have been called next week to discuss the circular threadbare.

Following the 25 per cent increase in seats last year, there will now be 2375 seats in BA at LU, 687 seats in B Com, 337 seats in B Sc (Bio) and 600 seats in B Sc (Maths). However, the fate of the evening classes is uncertain.
