Authorities at the Yerawada mental hospital have denied claims that INX Media co-founder Indrani Mukerjea had admitted her daughter Sheena and son Mikhail in Pune’s mental hospital. Mukerjea was arrested last week for allegedly murdering Sheena in April 2012.

Some news reports said Indrani, after allegedly killing Sheena, had told everyone her daughter was at a mental hospital in Pune. A section of the media had also reported that Indrani had kept Mikhail Bora at Yerawada hospital for a month to portray him as mentally unstable. This, she allegedly did, so that no one would believe Mikhail if he ever chose to tell someone that Indrani was his mother, not sister, as was widely believed.

“We have checked our records from 2008 up to 2014. The records suggest no one with the name Sheena or Mikhail was admitted in our hospital,” Dr Bhalchandra Dongalikar told Hindustan Times on Monday.

On whether Indrani had made attempts to contact doctors at the hospital to portray Mikhail as mentally unstable, Dongalikar said it would be difficult for him to check if anyone had personally approached any of the psychiatrists attached with the hospital.

“There are more than 15 psychiatrists attached with the hospital. Some of them also have a private practice. It is therefore not possible to check whether Indrani had approached any of the doctors personally,” said Dongalikar.
