This summer, Noida residents sweated it out in the face of frequent and prolonged power cuts. But as things stand now, the scenario will also remain bleak in the days to come too.
A power department estimation says Noida will need 1,750 MW of electricity 10 years from now on. To meet the demand, three sub-stations have to be commissioned by 2013. But because of paucity of land, these continue to be delayed.
“Not commissioning of power sub-station effectively means though the state government will have power available for Noida, it cannot be supplied to households,” explained a senior official.
Noida has 1.17 lakh commercial and residential connections and contributed about Rs1,448 crore to the state’s coffers in the last fiscal. But the power scenario has gone from bad to worse.
