In all-English semifinals, Matthew beat third seed Peter Barker 11-9, 11-2, 11-9, while Duncalf defeated third seed Alison Waters 11-6, 12-10, 11-9.

In the other semis, world champion Nicol David thumped Australia’s Kasey Brown 11-6, 11-3, 11-3, and England’s James Willstrop had no problem in getting past sixth-seeded Malaysian Azlan Iskandar 11-4, 11-7, 11-5.

Matthew, aiming to win his first medal here, said, “I’ve got better each match and I had to. The competition has got tougher.”
Barker, who will now face Iskandar in the bronze medal play-off, said, “I hope I win it.”
