LOVEBIRDS COMMITTED suicide by consuming sulphas when the girl’s family denied her marriage to the youth of her choice on the outskirts on Friday.

Significantly, the youth was already married but had engaged in love affair with the girl an year ago.

The incident took place at Ferozpur village in Malihabad. Villagers spotted bodies of Ram Kumar (24) and Bindeshwari (18) lying in a field outside the village early in the morning. They informed the family members of the deceased.

The girl’s mother and youth’s father (Gurudin Rawat) and brother Ram Bilas rushed to the scene and informed the police. The cops reached the place to find an empty bottle of sulphas indicating that the duo had used it to end their life.

Ram Bilas said his brother had gone to watch movie at a video theatre along with his friends after having his meal on Thursday night. Nobody in the family saw him returning home later. On the other hand, Bindeshwari’s mother said she had last seen her daughter sleeping on the terrace late in the night. She too could not see when did she leave home. Ram Bilas revealed that Ram Kumar was married to Sarma three years ago and they had a child. However, he and Bindeshwari fell in love about one year ago.

The lovebirds used to meet around midnight frequently since they developed intimacy. Some villagers and family members of both girl and the youth had caught them in compromising position several times.

The issue had led tiff between the two families quite a few times during past six months. Ram Kumar’s marital life too had turned sour following the matter. Ram Kumar had even offered to marry Bindheshwari but latter’s mother and the villagers raised objection over the same.

As the girl and the youth ignored the barriers being raised by the family members and continued meeting frequently the matter went to the village panchayat a few weeks back. The panchayat ordered the lovebirds to end up their relation and also instructed them not to meet ever. Ram Kumar and Bindeshwari even accepted the panchayat decision.

However, they could not stick to their word and started meeting each other again. The villagers forced girl’s mother to keep a close watch on her daughter and ensure that she did not step out of the house without her (mother) consent.

Ram Kumar’s friends revealed that since girl’s mother restricted her movement outside the house the lovebirds were finding difficult to see each other. The girl managed the meeting with Ram Kumar on Thursday night. She was carrying sulphas tablets with her. The duo consumed the tablets together ending their life.
