No unilateral flexibility from Pak on Kashmir

Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri says any solution to the Kashmir issue must be compatible with the interests of Pakistan.

Pakistan has said any solution to the Kashmir issue should be compatible with its interests.

"There can be no unilateral flexibility from Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. Kashmir has immense importance for Pakistan," Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri said.

Any solution to the Kashmir issue "must be compatible with the interests of Pakistan," he was quoted as saying by the APP news agency.

Stressing that resolution of the Kashmir issue would help in accelerating the progress and prosperity in the South Asian region, he said there was a need for evolving out of box solutions.

"The responsibility of both Indian and Pakistani leadership was to work for peace as durable peace in the region can only be achieved by taking just decisions," the minister said.

Justifying Pakistan's proposals on Kashmir, he said Pakistan wants change of status quo as confrontation and three wars have not proved helpful for the lasting resolution of the problem.

"Pakistan stands by the point that majority of the Kashmiris oppose the idea of division of Kashmir and Line of Control (LoC) can never be a permanent border," he said.
