VISHWA HINDU Parishad, Indore Mahanagar, has finally given up its plans to organise ‘Shastra Puja’ at Karbala Maidan. Instead, they will hold it at three places on September 24 and at Dussehra Maidan on Vijaya Dashmi, which is on October 2.

District administration, meanwhile, said that no community would be allowed to brandish swords or any other sharp-edged weapon in public. It said that it would seize the weapons if brandished by anyone in public.

As per its meeting held with district administration, VHP will perform the puja on Gendeshwar Mahadev temple premises in Subhash Nagar at 9 am. At the same time, another puja would take place on the school grounds near Ram temple on way to Bada Ganpati. Another ceremony will take place at Kalyan Mateshwari Digambar Jain Kanya Vidyalaya at Biyabani at 4 pm.

VHP activists have been asked to bring swords in sheaths to the place of worship. Raising slogans at the worship place too has been banned, ADM Rameshwar Gupta said.

During past fortnight, district administration and VHP have had several rounds of talks on holding ‘Shastra Pujan’ at Karbala Maidan, a land which minority community has laid claim to.

To prevent communal unrest, district administration had been resisting VHP’s move to hold the programme there. Last year, the administration took a similar promise from VHP that its members would not brandish weapons.

However, they flaunted it as soon as they reached Dussehra Maidan to which administration remained a mute witness. “But this time we will not take it lying down. We will be very strict, specially when the festival season is on,” a senior official remarked.
