Close on the heels of an FIR filed by the parents of four-year-old Mahi on Thursday, the Gurgaon administration on Friday lodged another FIR against plot owner Rohtash Singh, who had illegally dug the borewell.
According to the police, the plot owner has been charged under sections 188, 336 and 338 (digging of illegal borewell) of the Indian Penal Code.
It took more than 40 hours for the rescue operation team to reach out to Mahi, who fell into the uncovered pit at 11pm on Wednesday after celebrating her birthday with parents and relatives. The site is located on a rocky terrain between villages Khoh and Kasan at IMT Manesar, around 12 km from Kherki Daula toll plaza.
The rescue started on Wednesday night on the order of the deputy commissioner (DC) when local police informed him. Early Thursday, the army and National Security Guard (NSG) team reached. The team started digging with JCB machines but congested houses and disposing dug materials afar by dumpers, made the going tough. "Digging is an uphill task," said the DC. The rescue team tried all possible ways of digging a hole till Thursday afternoon when the Rapid Metro rescue team reached with a piling rig and other required tools.
A team of doctors –under the guidance of chief medical officer Dr Praveen Garg –was present at the spot. Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) administrator Praveen Kumar and senior police officials were leading the operation.
"We are reached near the victim and it is only a matter of time," said Gurgaon's district magistrate PC Meena, adding that the doctors' team was there to take care of the girl as soon as she was rescued.
