Not just pizzas

Khar’s newest eatery, Andy’s Pizzas, is located above Banana Bar. While it may sound like any other pizza joint, it can easily give the Pizza Hut and Dominos outlets a run for their money.

Located on the second floor of the decrepit Newcastle Hotel, Andy’s does not look like your average pizza place. It’s spacious and resembles a five-star eatery. At 9 pm, when we get in, not a single table is occupied. As we walk in, almost everybody eagerly welcomes us. We later realise that even the air conditioners are off, and had to request for the cooling. The music is switched on, which we later understand, is the same that plays one level below at Banana Bar.

As we settle down, we are surprised to see that the place not only serves pizzas, but an array of alcoholic beverages, which is probably a first in the city. The prices, though, are on the steep side. Grey Goose (Rs 400), Belvedere (Rs 440), Glenmorangie (Rs 500), Jack Daniels (Rs 450), Carlsberg pint (Rs 240) and Kingfisher pint (Rs 190) fall under the expensive category. The Iced Tea (Rs 100) and Tropical Colada (Rs 160) that we ordered were served within minutes.

The only constant nuisance was the manager. It was strang, when he asked us how we were and how our day was, minutes after taking the order. The Chicken Nuggets (Rs 160) tasted exactly like the ones marketed by fast-food chain Venky’s. The Chicken Sausage Pizza (Rs 200, 7 inch) was yummy. But the Shrimp Pizza (Rs 280, 7 inch) was bland. A separate salad bar offers Chicken Hawaiin salad (Rs 160 per serving). The place also serves a variety of pastas.

So we decided to try the Chicken Pesto Sauce (Rs 160) pasta, which was indeed the only item that was value for money. Also worth a mention is the music. The one-and-a-half hour that we spent
couldn’t have been better, if not for the soothing tunes.

What we like:
The ambience
The great music

What we don’t like:
Lack of privacy
Exorbitant prices
