An opening Delhi batsman, who is yet to represent the senior national team, has come under the scanner after his profile was found in an international bookie social networking account. The opener is also under the scanner considering the hype that was built around him and the way he was dismissed in the ongoing T20 league.
The bookie has been identified and is believed to be operating from abroad, police sources said.
“The profile ostensibly looks to be that of the player. We are monitoring both the links of the bookie, and the player,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity. It has also prompted agencies to monitor all the matches the player has played this season, police sources said.
The suspicion of the bookie being linked to the current cricket betting syndicate began when the police struck upon Bollywood celebrities linked to his account.
The arrests of S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan had given out the links between the film industry and Bollywood.
Vindoo’s links with Bollywood and the particular bookie’s association with other Bollywood celebrities have given police very strong reasons to believe that it is through the film industry that the bookies make inroads into the lives of cricketers, their wives or family. “Two known actors, a producer, and three models are under the radar,” said a senior police officer.
