Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha has questioned the authenticity of the visitors’ diary that has raised a storm with its details on individuals and representatives of business firms being probed by the agency meeting him at his Delhi residence during May 2013 to August this year.

Talking to HT, Sinha questioned the authenticity of certain entries in the visitors’ diary that shows individuals arriving at his 2, Janpath Road residence during April 8 to April 13 of this year to meet him when the house was empty. “Between 8 to 13 April this year, I had gone to Europe to attend a deliver my speech at an international event on combating human trafficking,” said Sinha. He said, “My wife was with me during the tour, my daughter was in Chhattisgarh and my son was in Netherlands where he studies.”

“But there are still entries showing visitors were coming to my residence. I leave it up to you to draw conclusions on the authenticity of the visitors’ diary, whose origin we are not aware of,” said Sinha.

The diary, which was accessed by HT, records visitors during April 8-13 across pages 57 to 60. Visitors shown during the period included an April 12 visit from meat exporter Moin Qureshi — who is facing an Income-Tax department probe.

To the left of the column, meant for ‘April 11’, the diary has just one entry, ‘Raju Paswan ke yahan se kapdey le kar driver aaya’.

The column for April 12 (page 58) showed that Qureshi arrived in his car at 6.25 pm and left at 6.40 pm. The other five alleged visitors were Mahendra Nahata, promoter of Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd and alleged beneficiary in 2G scam who came in at 8.55 pm and left at 9.10 pm and Sinha’s friend, retired engineer Mithilesh, Gagan and Rajender Gupta. The diary also has an entry from one Shiv Babu, who stayed for 125 minutes (7.45-9.50pm) .

Sinha has not denied meeting Qureshi and Nahata and the other four on other dates and has denied meeting them only between April 8-13. Earlier, former CBI director AP Singh had told HT on Wednesday, “I did not meet him on August 8, 2014 since I was not in Delhi that day.”
