UTV Interactive, the digital arm of UTV, has tied up with IZEA, a leading company in social media sponsorship to bring www.sponsoredtweets.com, the advertising platform on Twitter to India for the first time. The company will be monetising celebrity Twitter accounts as well as existing profiles and allowing brands to place sponsored ads inside their Twitter stream.
UTV will also help advertisers connect with IZEA’s international clientele that includes Kim Kardashian, Diddy and Nick Cannon and make available to them an exclusive roster of Indian Twitter celebrities for potential sponsorship opportunities. Sameer Pitalwalla, sr. vice president, interactive – UTV, admits that they are in talks with tennis stars Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, along with Mahesh’s star-wife Lara Dutta and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.
“Our definition of celebs is wide and includes popular personalities across genres, be it Bollywood and South stars, socialites or even chefs. What’s more, even those who are not big names could be a potential client, depending on the number of followers the person has and how engaged he or she is.” The first-time initiative that will flag off in India on Monday can turn out to be a profitable venture for the Twitterati.
“We’ve started our sales pitch 72 hours ago, but there’s a lot of interest. Depending on the number of followers, one can earn anywhere between 15 cents to $1,50,000 (Rs 7-70 lakh) per tweet.”
