AFTER SUCCESS of the recent Cotton and Craft Mela, the Bhopal Haat is hosting ten-day-long Vaishakhi Mela from April 21. The fair would be organised by the Rural Development Department   to provide the farmers remunerative prices for their produce. According to official sources, it had been observed that the farmers normally don’t receive remunerative prices for their crops due to involvement of middlemen in the exchange.

The Bhopal Haat would provide these farmers a platform where they could sell their crop directly to consumers, thereby eliminating any possibility of exploitation by middlemen. The fair would also allow the farmers to interact with the consumers face-to-face.

The participating self-help groups in the fair would offer on sale crops like rice, pulses and other grains and other products like spices, jaggery and pickles.

Among other products, which would be out for vending at the complex, would be craft works of bamboo, marble and bell metal. Unlike the Cotton and Craft Mela, the Vaishakhi Mela would witness participation of self-help groups from outside Madhya Pradesh also.

In addition to the fair, the authorities have also planned various   cultural  events at the complex during the scheduled ten days.
