CITIZENS OF Allahabad will soon get a rich experience of greenery. Under the initiative of the Allahabad's Forest Division, a 'Forest Park' will be set up in the city to help increase the forest cover.
The project is first of its kind for the divisions of Allahabad, Varanasi and Vindhyachal of UP's Southern Forest Zone.
Chief Conservator of Forests of the Zone, Dr Ashwini Kumar while talking to HT Allahabad Live said, "As per the directives and guidelines received from the High Court, the Allahabad Forest Division is all set to initiate the work in this regard."
The department has planned to give a green and a fresh look to the park. "In this direction, we will be planting ornamental (flower) and environmentally important varieties of plants in the park, which include ficus, neem, gulmohar, jarul, bottle brush, amaltash and various kinds of palms", said Dr Kumar. Over four acres of land has been earmarked in Teliarganj for the purpose near Curzon bridge on Allahabad-Lucknow Road, he added.
Dr Kumar said, about Rs 56 lakh has been sanctioned for the work by the State Government, adding that the work will start immediately after the rainy season and will take two years to complete.
