Now, Hitler and Taimur come to rule!

india Updated: Nov 14, 2006 01:34 IST

DID YOU know that Hitler, Nadir Shah, Taimur Lang, Alexander, Akbar and Napoleon contested the urban local bodies election?

They not only contested the election but also beat rival candidates at the hustings. Some are chairman and others member of nagar panchayats.

The State Election Commission on Monday released the list of victorious candidates in the recently concluded nagar nigam, nagar palika parishad and nagar panchayats poll.

The list at times reads like a who’s who. It contains the name of kings and dictators of the medieval and modern period.

Taimur Lang, the cruel warlord of the fourteenth century, and his army had ran over large part of West and Central Asia, but his 21st century namesake in UP has faith in democratic ethos.

After polling maximum votes he was declared elected chairman of Titaro Nagar Panchayat in Saharanpur district.

Known for brutality, Nadir Shah invaded India in 1739 and captured Delhi after defeating the Mughal Army. He plundered Delhi and massacred large number of the citizens. But the voters of Bhinga Nagar Panchayat in Bahraich district elected Nadir Shah as their chairman. This Nadir has promised the people that he would work for their welfare and redress the grievances.

Victory of Hitler from Parichitgarh Nagar Panchayat seat in Meerut district has surprised all. He contested as an Independent and was allotted kettle as the election symbol. Unmindful of the fact that Nazis under Hitler paved the way for the downfall of Third Reich and established an authoritarian rule, the voters in Parichitgarh went for the kettle.

Starting from Macedonia in Greece, Alexander conquered half of the world known to the Greeks. Here Sikander (Alexander) was contesting as an Independent candidate from Umri Nagar Panchayat in Jalaun district. He was elected member of the nagar panchayat.

Following on the footsteps of Sikander, French emperor Napoleon tried his fate in the electoral battle. The natives of Pali Nagar Nagar Panchayat voted for Nand Kishore alias Napoleon for the chairman posts.  Akbar was declared elected as Sultanpur Chilkhana Nagar Panchayat chairman seat in Saharanpur district.

Other candidates having uncommon name who secured victory in the just-concluded election include Viran, Aanshu, Chammo, Bhulla, Muskan, Paltu,Jhabban and Puttan.
