DON’T DREAD queues or the hassles of having to fill long forms if you have any tax to pay to the State Government. From April 3, the payment could be made online. All that the individual taxpayers would be required to do is logging on to cyber treasury through www.mptreasury.org and fill a form according to their tax liability.

As this site is linked to the site of the State Bank of India, the taxpayer would immediately get the print of receipt of deposited amount.

Liability of the depositor would be deemed discharged on showing the receipt to the department concerned. The cyber treasury of the State Government is country’s first such experiment.  Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would dedicate the cyber treasury at a function at Samanywaya Bhawan on Monday.

Finance Minister Raghavji would chair the function, which would also be attended by Commercial Tax Minister Babulal Gaur and Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni.

Through the cyber treasury, all government bills and challans would be submitted online and payments made with immediate effect.

The state treasury will remain connected with the State Bank of India and thus the overdraft situation would be under control.

Other government departments would also be connected to the treasury and relevant banks. Some departments will be connected to the new system in near future when they are fully computerised.

Apart from speeding government working, the new system is expected to check corruption, misuse of funds or mixing of heads of accounts in different government offices etc. The Finance department will also put an effective check on government spending.
