The Haryana government has decided to extend the benefit of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana to rickshaw pullers, rag pickers, mine workers, sanitation workers and autorickshaw and taxi drivers in the state.
A spokesperson for the health department said that the decision would cover 2.16 lakh additional beneficiaries. He said the estimated financial implication would be `5.80 crore during the current financial year, out of which 25% amounting to `1.45 crore would be borne by the state government.
Till now, street vendors, beedi workers, domestic workers, building and other construction workers and MGNREGA workers were covered under the scheme.
He said the total number of rickshaw pullers benefiting from the decision were estimated to be 27,000, rag pickers were nearly 23, 000, mine workers nearly 27, 000 and sanitation workers nearly 22,000.
Apart from this, nearly 72,000 autorickshaw drivers and taxi drivers would be benefitted by the decision, he added.
