The CBI on Thursday arrested senior IAS officer Pradeep Shukla in connection with the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
The CBI arrested him from Amausi Airport early in the morning. Shukla was leaving for Delhi when the CBI team nabbed him.
He has been brought to CBI headquarters for interrogation.
Shukla (1981 batch IAS officer) was principal secretary health and family planning and mission director NRHM from 2009 to 2011 when large-scale financial irregularities were committed. Earlier, the CBI had summoned him for interrogation several times. Shukla was a powerful bureaucrat during Mayawati regime.
Shukla is the first IAS officers to be arrested in the multi-crore NRHM scandal. The CBI has already arrested former health minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, who is in jail.
After the murder of chief medical officer BP Singh in April 2011, Shukla was shifted to board of revenue. Last week the CBI had arrested former CMO Lucknow AK Shukla in connection with the murders of CMOs BP Singh and VK Arya. He is in Lucknow jail.
