A new cell has been set up at the Madhya Pradesh chief minister's office here to facilitate coordination between NRIs and the Madhya Pradesh government, said official sources.
Orders to set up the NRI Facilitation Cell were issued by the commerce and industries department on Wednesday.
Set up in compliance with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's announcement during the NRI Meet in New Delhi on Jan 8, the cell would collect database information about NRIs of Madhya Pradesh origin. This would also include their professional qualifications and hobbies, besides other information.
A secretary level officer nominated by Chouhan would be in charge of the cell, while the executive director of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) would be its secretary. The Madhya Pradesh Trade and Investment Facilitation Corporation would function as the secretariat.
The cell would help facilitate various departments and institutions of the state to establish communication directly with NRI investors.
Utilising the technical, managerial and financial resources of NRIs, the state's technical and professional capacity of human resources could be enhanced. The cell would also chalk out an action plan in coordination with various agencies.
The chief minister hoped that the cell would prove beneficial in redressal of various difficulties besides providing a forum to NRIs interested in making investments in Madhya Pradesh.
