The parents of Niranjani, the NRI who was killed by her husband, are expected to arrive late Tuesday evening from South Africa. They are also expected to join investigations on Wednesday.
The Crime Branch of Delhi police, which had arrested the accused husband Sumit Handa on Saturday, had requested the parents to visit India as they wanted the DNA sample of deceased’s mother.
“Her parents might give us more clues about the motive behind the murder. We will take their statements. We have also requested Niranjani’s mother for a DNA test,” a crime branch officer said.
Soon after cracking the case, the Crime Branch got in touch with Niranjani’s parents. They also want the custody of their daughter’s one-year-old son, who is currently with his grandparents in Agra.
Meanwhile, Niranjani’s laptop was recovered from Handa’s Agra house and has been sent for forensic examination.
Handa had killed his wife on October 29, stuffed her body in a bag and drove to Haryana, where he burnt the body. He later filed a missing complaint with the Pul Prahladpur police station, saying that his wife had given him a cup of tea laced with sedatives. He had said that when he woke up on the morning of November 30, he found his wife missing with jewellery, cash and her clothes and he suspected that she had run away with someone.
Later, the Crime Branch had begun parallel investigation and found that Handa himself had killed her. Handa is currently in police custody.
He has been taken to Haryana where he had burnt the body. Police also took him to Agra where his parents live.
