THE DISTRICT unit of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has strongly protested against the mention of the name of Kolar municipality areas as ‘Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Nagar’ in the official invitation card for Republic Day function.
The invitation card was published in the name of Kolar chief municipal officer Ajay Kumar Shobhane and the NSUI charged that the name was mentioned deliberately despite no official change in the name of locality, under the pressure of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The NSUI claimed that the chief municipal officer accepted his mistake in the matter before a NSUI delegation. The NSUI on Monday held a demonstration near the Kaliasot canal and burnt the effigy of local MLA and Industries Minister Babulal Gaur, led by district unit general secretary Rahul Singh Rathod.
The NSUI demanded that Shobhane be removed from his post failing which the organisation would be conducting a foot march (padyatra) from Bima Kunj till the Kolar Municipality office at Akbarpur and would put forth a demand to the chairman Iqbal Patel that municipality council tender a public apology for the mistake and to put forth proposal of dismissal of Shobhane before the district Collector. The Congressmen would also join the agitation, Rathod said.
Those who participated in the demonstration on Monday included youth Congress member Sanjeev Batham, L L soni, Avadhnarayan Gurjar, Yogendra Chouhan, Mahendra Patil, Dharmendra Singh, Kapil Saini and others of NSUI.
