The 71-year-old nun who was gang raped at a convent in West Bengal's Nadia district on Saturday was reported to be in a stable condition on Monday.
"Her condition is stable and she is also recovering from her psychological trauma. She has undergone psychological counseling," said Atin Mandal, superintendent of the Ranaghat sub-divisional hospital, where the elderly nun was brought early on Sunday. "She has eaten a solid diet, mainly roti and soup. On Sunday she was given semi-solid food," Mandal added.
The news of the sexual assault on the nun and the robbery at a convent at Ranaghat, which spread across the world through the Church network and social media, brought many visitors to the small West Bengal town located over 75 km from Kolkata.
The nun's visitors on Monday included members of her Rome-based congregation, the Religious of the Jesus and Mary.
"Many people associated with different organisations at home and abroad have reached the hospital to meet her. But we cannot allow everybody to visit her. Policemen have been deployed in her ward… We have also asked the police administration to beef up security inside the hospital," Mandal added.
